Muscovy Ducklings are for everyone. They are amazing creatures.

Their scientific name is Cairina moschata. They are native to Mexico down through the Northern areas of South America. There are feral populations throughout the South East United States. They are particularly prolific in the warmer areas of Florida and Texas. They are common in parks here in Central Alabama where they benefit from being fed by kind hearted individuals.

As farmyard pets or livestock, they couldn't be easier. They'll free range for much of their food and will clean up whatever your other animals miss. They are said to be a perching duck and will roost on top of buildings, fences, and even in trees. The females are about half the size of the males and they make amazing mothers. CALL DUCKS GONE CRAZY - Beautiful Lady Amherst Pheasant tries to stay out of their way.

The drakes were fighting. The kids were "helping". They had taken out the big water tub that the ducks use as a pond to wash it. They also had just put two extra drakes into the pen with a pair of young ducks. The young drake was the one doing all the chasing around while his mate did all the loud quacking. I came out and had the boys separate them and all was fine.
